Davis Bay at a Glance
Located along the Sunshine Coast in western British Columbia, life really
is a beach at Davis Bay. The small, sleepy community is best known for its long
pebbled beach and the stunning views across Georgia Strait to Vancouver
Island. A haven for beach dwellers, the esplanade is popular for strolling
but especially so every May when the community hosts a yearly kite-flying display
and later in July when the kid in everyone can join in its annual sand castle
competition. An old wooden pier is a landmark in the area and is popular with
swimmers and anglers. The former hit the waves officially during the annual
New
Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim while the latter fish from the pier or via sport
fishing charters that operate in the area. Davis Bay’s charm, however, extends
beyond the sand. Marine tours leave from the area to view the impressive coastline
and share the water with its other admirers, among them kayakers, windsurfers
and divers. Inland, the Chapman Creek Nature Trail is a popular hiking and biking trail
that offers fun along the way as more than a dozen gnomes, carved from tree
stumps by a local sculptor, are encountered along the path.
